WHERE ARE THEY MADE?

ABOUT OUR DIAMONDS

At Gem & Jade Co., we take great pride in offering exquisite synthetic diamonds created in state-of-the-art lab environments in East Asia. These laboratory-created diamonds, composed of crystalline silicon carbide, serve as exceptional diamond simulants, capturing the essence and allure of natural diamonds. Most importantly, they offer a sustainable and ethical lifestyle choice, creating everlasting luxury brilliance responsibly.

The Gemstone from the Stars

Moissanite, a mineral composed of silicon carbide, is often called the "gemstone from the stars." Discovered in 1893 by Nobel Prize-winning chemist Henri Moissan, this extraordinary gem was found inside a meteorite in Canyon Diablo, Arizona. Initially mistaken for diamonds, it wasn't until 1904 that Moissan correctly identified the crystals as silicon carbide.

Today, moissanite is exclusively grown in laboratories, offering a brilliant alternative to diamonds. Created in a controlled environment with advanced technology, moissanite is easily traceable and eliminates the need for mining. This not only ensures a smaller carbon footprint but also significantly reduces its environmental impact compared to naturally mined gems.

Durability & Brilliance

When it comes to durability, lab-grown moissanite is an excellent choice. Mined diamonds, rated a perfect 10 on the Mohs hardness scale, are the hardest material and can only be scratched by other diamonds. Moissanite is close behind with a hardness rating of 9.25, making it highly resistant to scratches and abrasions. This ensures that your moissanite jewelry remains beautiful and long-lasting. Additionally, moissanite’s impressive heat resistance makes it a fantastic option for everyday wear, combining beauty and durability effortlessly.

Moissanite is also renowned for its brilliance, surpassing diamonds with more than twice the amount of fire. If a moissanite is larger than 1 carat, the difference in fire becomes quite noticeable, thanks to its refractive index of 2.64 to 2.69. This extraordinary brilliance adds to the gemstone’s allure, making it a striking alternative to traditional diamonds.
